The elections

This question is only for those of you who are (or are expecting to be by October) US Citizens.

What outcome of the next presidential elections would you prefer?
1. Hillary wins.
2. Obama wins.
3. I hate this country and want it to turn into a 3rd-world shithole with Soviet-style bureaucracy, religion-based foreign policy, banned abortions, Orwellian law enforcement and completely destroyed environment.

Please answer simply by choosing a number.

потому как надежды на то, что Обама сбалансирует бюджет, сделает хоть что-то с медициной, закончит войну в Ираке и опять начнет участвовать в мировых сообществах, мало и меньшеет

Honestly, the most Soviet part of this whole thing isn't Hillary or McCain, it's the way you frame the issue. It's about as tolerant of Republicans as an issue o Pravda in 1964 was of Americans. Deserves to be taken just as seriously, too, I think.

I don't have much tolerance for G.O.P., sorry. And yes, it's because of my Soviet background: I can't stand this country turning into yet another edition of the USSR or PRC.

Gallup Poll says McCain would win over Hillary, and Obama would win over McCain, but the margins are very narrow in both cases.

Well, I'm not an american citizen, but I can tell you what 4 citizens would do. One will vote for #1, another for #1 or #2, and the last two probably wouldn't vote because Giuliani is out (they prefer GOP, but not that much).
As for me I think you shouldn't panic - USA had a lot of bad presidents, and a lot of Republican presidents as well, and it is still doesnt' look like the #3. And don't forget that the Senate and the Congress are controlled by dems, so a Republican president would have a hard time.

Yes, but things haven't been as bad as they are now for a long time. I don't think the economy can take another 4 years of such aggressive incompetence and corruption.

I would prefer 1 - Hillary.

If Obama wins, it will be sad because he will get the victory based on the black votes support, but I don't think that he will be able to implement really useful changes because of luck of experience and what he says now.

1 or 2 - either way I am hoping for a miracle :)

Vote for #1. I hope she wins. It is possible that at the end Clinton and Obama will form an alliance to capture all democrat voters, and one of them will be the President (hopefully Hillary), and one of them - the Vice President. So Democrats would be guaranteed to win the election.
Barak is very charismatic, well educated and is a great speaker. But Hillary has all the experience. I truly believe that she can balance the budget (if nothing else :)).

Не знаю. Я за политикой не слежу, но республиканцы надоели. За Хилари стоин сравнительно нормальный Клинтон, но я бы за Обаму голосовал бы из принципа. Хотя по большому счёту все они - говно.

I would vote #1, but the odds are 3/1 that Obama will win the democratic nomination and 2/1 that Dems will win the election.
